Branham taught that the serpent in Eden was not a snake but a beast-like creature, the most subtle of the field, upright and able to impregnate Eve through sexual seduction by Satan entering it, making the original sin an act of adultery rather than eating fruit. He explained that Eve was beguiled (meaning "defiled") by the serpent, became pregnant with Cain (serpent's seed, Satan's son) before telling Adam, who then knew her, leading to Abel and later Seth as the righteous line. God placed enmity between the woman's seed (righteous line through Abel/Seth to Christ) and the serpent's seed (Cain's line of shrewd, religious, intelligent people like pre-flood giants, scoffers, and modern intellectuals).
